Homebuying Deal Breakers: What Turns Buyers Away

When looking for a home to buy, some things can make or break the decision to pursue a listing. Here are some homebuying deal breakers revealed in a survey by 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty

First Impressions Count

When looking at homes, 25% said they take 10 minutes or less to decide if a house is right for them, and 27% said they go with their gut over pausing and thinking.

Additionally, 49% have walked away from a home immediately due to a minor issue.

The biggest immediate deal breakers:

  1. Mold smell (89%)
  2. Uneven floors (77%)
  3. Smoke smell (73%)
  4. Crooked walls (73%) (tie)
  5. Located on a busy road (63%)

Impressions from the seller matter too – 58% said they’ve walked away for this reason.

And here’s a spooky fact: 14% said they have gotten a “bad vibe” from a home … only to discover it was a former crime scene.

                  Non-Negotiables

There are some hills that homebuyers are willing to die on. The top non-negotiables according to survey respondents were:
