Whether you’re moving yourself or hiring professional movers, packing more means more boxes, more transportation and more time. Take the time to sell or donate anything you don’t need or want. This will also help save space in your new home.

If you’re hiring professional movers, be clear with your instructions ahead of time to avoid incurring extra fees. To know exactly what to expect from the moving company, read the agreement carefully before signing, looking for any hidden costs.  

3. Time Your Move  

Summer is typically the most popular time for people to move. Knowing this, many moving companies increase their prices during the warmer months. The same is often true for weekends. To save money, aim to hire movers during the cooler months and/or on weekdays.  

4. Clear Out the Pantry 

In the time leading up to your move, avoid buying unnecessary groceries and try to clear out your pantry, fridge and freezer. Having less food reduces the number of things to pack, and it helps decrease food waste.
